What are individual eyelash extensions?
Individual eyelash extensions are designed to lengthen, define and thicken your natural eyelashes. Eyelash extensions are singular synthetic fibres that vary in thickness, length and curl. A natural look or a more dramatic look can be achieved by selecting the appropriate eyelash extensions. The treatment is permanent in so far as it lasts for as long as your natural eyelashes, which is anything between 60 and 90 days. As your natural lashes shed, so will the eyelash extension that is attached, hence over time the fullness of the lashes will decrease. If you wish to maintain the fullness of the lashes, in-fills are required regularly.
How are eyelash extensions applied?
Eyelash extensions are applied by placing the individual synthetic extensions to your natural lashes, thereby thickening, lengthening and enhancing your natural eyelashes. The adhesive does not come into contact with your skin.
How long does the application process take?
The application process takes between 60 and 120 minutes for a full set of eyelash extensions. If you are having in-fills, however, this can take between 30-60 minutes, depending on how many eyelash in-fills you require. In-fills may be required every 2 - 6 weeks to maintain their fullness.
What is the lifespan of individual eyelash extensions?
The lifecycle of your natural eyelashes is between 60 to 90 days; therefore the longest your eyelashes will last is 8 weeks. The natural lash lifecycle varies from individual to individual, so some clients may find their extensions last a longer or shorter period than others. Once your lashes begin to diminish in fullness, you can either opt for in-fills to keep their fullness, or the remaining lashes can be removed easily and painlessly at any point by the eyelash technician using a removal fluid.
Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone?
Eyelashes are not suitable for everyone. Should you have an eye infection or condition, they may not be suitable. They are not suitable for individuals with no existing eyelashes. They also require a certain level of care and maintenance, so this is something you should consider before having them.
Which eyelash extensions are right for me?
The length and thickness of the eyelash extensions will be discussed at your appointment, however eyelash extensions are not recommended to be more than twice the length of your natural eyelash length. You may decide to go for a more natural 'classic' look, or perhaps you want a more dramatic 'mascara effect' look - either way, your lashes will look fantastic!
Is there any maintenance involved?
To maintain the fullness of your eyelash extensions, in-fills will be required every 3 -6 weeks, dependant on your natural lash lifecycle. With regard to day-to-day maintenance, it is important that you keep your eyelash extensions clean, and not wear oil-based make-up products. Also, your lashes will last longer if not exposed to heat sources on a frequent basis (such as steam rooms, saunas, etc). The aftercare procedure will be discussed in full at your appointment.
Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?
Eyelash extensions do not cause damage to your natural eyelashes as long as they are applied by a qualified eyelash extension technician who has ensured that the lashes used are not too heavy for your natural lashes. If correct aftercare is undertaken, and you do not rub or pull at the extensions, then no damage will occur.
Is the eyelash application process safe?
Yes. The adhesive used to bond the eyelash extension to your natural lash is an odourless medical grade adhesive. The adhesive does not come into contact with your skin or eyes, therefore cannot cause irritation in this way. Medical tape is used in the application process to isolate your lower lashes, and this can cause an irritation if the client is allergic to plasters, but should any irritation occur, the medical tape can be removed immediately.
